I ran across some great interview questions. These are meant for you, the employer, to ask the interviewee. Of course, it is a good idea to have ready answers if you are the interviewee. The interviewer may have read this post.
I got these from Vanessa Edwards at The Science of People. Read her post for much more detail. In fact, read all her posts and watch all her videos. You will be a whole lot smarter for it.
Question #1: What’s something that you used to believe but no longer believe? This is along the lines of my favorite ice-breaker, “What lies are you telling yourself?”
Question #2: Who were the competitors at the last company you worked for and how did your company differentiate itself? Their answer gives insight into their level of strategic thinking and company involvement and why they do what they do.
Question #3: Tell me about your best and worst days at work. This answer shows what they value and what they fear.
Question #4: If I called your current boss, what would they say about you?
Question #5: Are you working on anything exciting outside of work? I would change this from a yes/no question to an open-ended question using “what” or “how.”
Question #6: You have two teleportation devices. Where do you place them and why?
Question #7: Wait…do you remember all of our names? I once had a waiter tell me I could have a free dessert if I could tell him the name he told me at the start of the interaction. I couldn’t. Now I even write down their name if they tell me and I ask if they don’t.
Question #8: If you didn’t have to work, why would you come into the office? This gives insight into what they value, their motivations, and their interests.
Question #9: Describe the last significant conflict you had at work and how you handled it?
Question #10: Is there something I didn’t ask that I should have asked you?
